I love it, too. Particularly the Egyptology and other ancient history mixed into the lore.
I never could get into the Star Trek franchise - I have trouble suspending disbelief for aspects of that universe, characters often feel wooden, acting is mixed depending on series, and each successive series seems to add baggage to the canon - but Stargate is awesome to me because it also doesn’t take itself too seriously all the time, while still having a lot of the same themes and plots.
A lot of shows stand on the shoulders of the giant that is Star Trek, and I frankly find most of them superior. I did like ST:TNG a bit, but still didn’t watch more than a couple of episodes.
Sometimes I’ve enjoyed briefly watching of some of the older game shows and find them quite funny. Though these older 60’s and 70’s version retro shows are often hard to find from New Zealand with Geoblocking. (if that’s the right term) More restrictive options here and DNS/VPN’s often needed.

I never got into OG Trek, but I love me some Picard…TNG is great.
Stargate is so good because of the historical aspect of it. You’d never be able to run out of ideas for story lines because every region of earth and every section of history can give you a new idea.
It’s cheesy but that just makes it more endearing to me.
Reading through this thread though is clear we are all a bunch of nerds!
I’m on my 3rd re-watch of Fringe right now, taking my kids along this time. I think it’s the closest network television came to a great sci-fi show with a beginning, middle and end. Although it was more of a beginning, middle, end, redo the first season the way you thought it was going to end, and intriguing coda.
I watch very little TV these days…what I do watch is usually when I’m traveling and staying at a hotel/motel…and then it’s usually a classic movie or I love documentaries, so I tend to watch PBS a lot. But I do like to watch tv shows on YT or Netflix. Some of my absolute favorites include X-Files, Star Trek (OG, TNG, Voyager). Anyone remember the old shows like Night Stalker, Night Gallery, Connections?
oh I loved those miniseries! V was my favorite Science fiction tv. I forgot all about it. Thanks for reminding me. Good memories. I think Marc Singer the guy from the Beastmaster movie stared in V. I can’t think of who the women was.
