The problem with AI at the moment is its misuse. Here is a perfect example of what is wrong with AI slop… I mean, I can understand Mike, he invests hours producing high quality and historically accurate videos on ship design, disasters, what lessons can be learned etc. and then along come these channels outputting AI slop that is not only historically inaccurate, but also completely changing things.
The photo of Captain Smith on the deck, I mean, why? They took the original photo and got AI to colourise it, maybe a good thing in and of itself, but they didn’t even compare the result to the original? The light is now a clock, his beard has been trimmed, his face changed, the medals are wrong… Why didn’t they compare the resulting image to the original and throw it back at the AI as being an incompetent colourisation, instead of posting it online?
If they had put time and effort into the process, the colourisation might have been interesting, but by completely changing how the people look and how they are dressed, what benefit does it bring to the historical record? The AI could have been used to do something good in these cases, but instead it was just used to create AI slop to earn a few shekels.
OMG, the shark swimming along the corridors? Really? And the 3-fork method of eating is interesting as well ![]()

I do agree with Mike about the small collection of animated photos towards the end, they were done with more care, and apart from changing a young boy into a middle-aged woman, were actually interesting. They were a good use of AI, but the rest is just abuse of AI, giving it a bad name.
The number of interesting looking videos I see these days on YouTube, I click on them and there is some dreadful AI voice that drives me away from the video within a minute and/or the information is so inaccurate that the video is a waste of time.
