TWIT 1034: Two I's and No P

Beep boop - this is a robot. A new show has been posted to TWiT…

What are your thoughts about today’s show? We’d love to hear from you!

Interestingly, Palantir got a kick in the teeth 2 weeks back. They had won a contract to run a huge database for the NHS (National Health Service) in the UK, but one of the largest regional organisations, the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board said that it sees no point to the service Palantir is offering, because it offers less functionality and less information than the system they have already implemented…

I was surprised Iain didn’t bring that up, when they were talking about Palantir, given it was his team that broke the story.

Also, the discussion on companies having your data is fine, but Government makes @Leo feel uneasy is interesting, over here, it is generally the other way around, the Government has strict safeguards they have to follow with the data and they can’t share it, but companies aren’t trusted with data.

Enshittification is hip now. Even the US Government is in on it. After a trial run in 2017, it started in earnest on Jan. 20th of this year.

Nice to hear Windows Phone name-checked. That OS was great! I had a Lumia Icon and it was the best phone I ever had.

I had a Windows Phone and loved it. The reason I switched away from it was the same I’m sure for everyone else. Lac of app support. I briefly found an app that worked for snapchat, but wasn’t an official app, and eventually lost access to my account b/c I was using a client to access snap. My bank would not allow me to log in on Windows phone, so anytime I wanted to check my bank account balance I had to do it from a computer or log in on my girlfiends iphone. I eventually ended up switching over to iPhone because of the popularity of apps. I’ve not looked back. Eventually got my family on board and now have the Family Sharing set up and it’s great. But if Windows Phone had support, I’d probably go back and give it a try again.
