Starting at around the 10 minute mark, I started noticing Paris’ voice echoing. Similarly to this week’s MBW.
Also at the 10 min mark, someone needed to mute their mic. It sounded really rough on the ears.
at the 15 minute mark, Paris is still slightly echoing.
at the 16 minute mark, Leo’s slightly echoing.
I will update this post as I listen and notice stuff. I’m not trying to complain.
Drat. Thanks very much for the report. I’ll check it.
…
I’m listening to it loud on my Sonos Move speakers and I hear a tiny bit of backgroud noise but nothing we’d normally fix.
I went back to the 10 min part (started around 10m28s) and it wasn’t really as bad as I remember. It was Jeff’s microphone arm.
Next week for episodes, I’m going to try listening on my airpods pro / speakers instead of my bose headphones. Maybe the Bose headphones are more sensitive.
The episode was very fun, and outside of the slight echoing, it’s not a big issue.
I do wonder where the audio echo stems from; specially since Windows Weekly this week had no such echos. Maybe it’s just simply some wire cross talk and it’ll work itself out by means of moving over time.
Well we do Security Now and Windows Weekly with Restream. TWiG, TWiT, and MacBreak Weekly are done with Zoom. So there definitely will be some differences.
It’s really good to get the feedback - we’re definitely still tweaking things a lot!
I decided to go back to the old 24mm lens - I kind of like the weirdly intimate camera angle even if it does make my head look fat!
Security Now is the next podcast on my warpath. My crystal ball predicts this week the Restream shows will have sounded better to my ears.
I didn’t notice the difference in camera lens until you mentioned it. Windows Weekly’s more zoomed in intimate look is nice. I don’t think it makes your head look big! I only notice it a bit since you pointed it out… Now it might be a bit hard to unsee; but I promise you I don’t think people would flood the chat asking who’s the fat head
I didn’t notice the difference to the camera on my audio podcast… badum, tissch, or sad trombone?
As long as I don’t look like a Twitch streamer I’m good!
There’s a pun in here somewhere. Putting the TWIT in Twitch.
Not all landlords are bad. Ours is very nice, he looks for the right people for his flats. We chatted for nearly an hour as we looked at the flat.
He had no pets in the advert, we said we have an older dog, he said he lives dogs, not a problem. We said, we have ebikes, no problem, we can have the shed, he even put a light in and a power socket for the charger. Is it possible to put the washing machine in the cellar, instead of the bathroom? No problem, he put a pump in the cellar to pump the waste water up to the sewer. It is too expensive? No problem, price negotiated down to a more suitable level.
He and his girlfriend are here every weekend, they are still renovating 2 other flats in the building and we spend a couple of hours chatting with them every week, drinking coffee together or a communal BBQ with the others in the building.
True, because, most probably your landlord is “small” compared to what has been happening in the US and Canada. We’re experiencing a “Walmart-ization” of landlords… where all the little guys are getting bought up by huge players who are “renovicting” long term tenants who would otherwise be under rent control to be able to re-rent the units for double or more the rent. I was talking about this concept elsewhere when I found a news article that was a classic example of this. The previous small town owner died, and the unit was bought up by one of these huge conglomerates.
I think it all depends on who the landlord is. By far my worst experience were with properties that were ran by a property management company. Would report issues and go days and weeks with no response. Would almost always have to go directly into the office and say “There’s a hole in my bathroom floor I cut my foot on it. Please fix it” before anything would be done. Also noticed that an above my head deck to my balcony was coming loose from the building. Took a week for someone to come look at it an another month before a repair was made. At which time I was told to stay at least 10 feet away from that sliding door incase it did crash to try to avoid any injury to my person. No compensation issued for not being able to utilize that much of my already small apartment.
I have had decent landlords though. Once moved into a place where the landlord wanted a 6month contract. I explained to him while I was possibly going to be there 6 months to a year, I wasn’t sure at this point how much longer I was going to stay in the city in which I was living or if I was going to relocate back closer to family. We negotiated it down to a month to month basis. Paid two months up front, plus damage fee. Was told to provide 30 day notice and once issue, my 2nd month payment would go towards last month’s rent. He held true to his word. Even received a note with my damage deposit back saying all the other tenants in the building loved how friendly I was. He hoped the next renter was as liked as I was.
