Mr. Howell, you should look up “Choice Of Games” and “Hosted Games.” Interactive fiction is a very active genre right now, though at what scale, I’m not sure. I guess it’s still pretty obscure; no one’s talking about it, and no one I know has known about it until I told them.

Unrelated:
A friend of mine has been using a chatGPT-based AI (can’t remember which one), not to dungeon-master adventures for them, but to practice their own DMing in a no-stakes environment where the AI is the player(s).

And on VR:
I actually love VR and wish there was more going on with it. My experiences with VR games, videos, etc. have been fantastic. But…I haven’t used my OQ2 in quite a while, either. For these specific reasons:

  1. It needs to update itself, and that’s going to involve turning it on, putting it on, then taking it off and leaving it powered on until it’s done downloading, patching, and rebooting a couple of times. I’ll either leave it lying around way too long, or I’ll have to keep putting it back on to check whether it’s done yet.
  2. My Facebook and Meta accounts have to be merged or something. That involves putting the headset on and then going through the incredibly awkward process of pushing the headset up to read my password on my desktop, “typing it in” in VR, taking it off to confirm a security email, etc…etc…
  3. For many months I simply haven’t had enough floorspace.
  4. I need to wear my glasses under the headset, which I’ve made pretty comfortable, but my prescription is out of date, so wearing my glasses gives me a headache.

Just so many dumb little things in the way, and half of them aren’t the OQ2’s fault at all.
