The web-link provided in the show notes are recommending a 3 or 4 step process that starts with CTRL-ALT-DEL. I run into these things often at my office and the simplest way to get it off your screen is CTRL-W. (Mac users can use Command-W). Don’t use the mouse because often times if there is a close button, it is fake or covered with an image map or JavaScript.
When asked “Were you on a browser”, she answered, “I was going into my email”, which means she doesn’t know. The full-screen tab in a browser can hide the toolbar and other similar symptoms, and she just needs to close that tab with CTRL-W.
