Regarding Threads blocking EU users, the one thing Steve missed is that it takes their existing Instagram profile, which, I believe, has a location set, so they don’t really need to check the location the user is logging in from or whether they are using a VPN, they already have the information in the user’s profile - although I suspect they do a bit of both.
I’m guessing that they would also, currently put a flag on accounts that suddenly switch from the EU to non-EU countries.
