Just a quick note about the interim optional updates for Windows printing problems.
Maybe they tightened up security and some manufacturers’ drivers don’t follow the rules and they had to back out some of the change? If that or they fixed a security flaw that caused the same sort of issue, that makes sense to only offer it as an optional fix for people that are affected. I would guess a majority of users won’t be affected. Why break a “running system” for tens of millions of users, when only a small number have a problem?
Being a rushed fix, it might also cause further problems, yet another reason not to push it out to everyone.
Either way, it gives those affected the chance to “get back to normal”, whilst not messing up working PCs and giving Microsoft the time to find a fully workable and tested solution.
