SN 1048: Mic-E-Mouse

Beep boop - this is a robot. A new show has been posted to TWiT…

What are your thoughts about today’s show? We’d love to hear from you!

I live in the Amazon US-East region (Northern VA). The interesting thing is there is not just one data center. There are at least 60 massive AWS data centers in the area. More are being built everyday here.

I doubt it’s all AWS. While I agree AWS will have a large footprint, MS also has Azure data centers in that region.

Miscrosoft, Google, Equinix, and many others. Within 10 miles of my house there are over 300 data centers.

I have always thought that the safety & protection of our Kids should be in the hands of the parents.

The big problem is not all parents are good with technology or they just give their kids whatever they want.

Kids & Parents need to be informed.

I have nothing to hide, but I will never give out any personal information on the internet.
Once its out there like Photos etc. its there for good.

With all the hackers & compromised web sites these days its not a smart idea to give out your info. Your birthday is just one step in Identity Theft.

What about Fake ID’s ??? Using a Vpn ?

I totally agree about banning kids from Social Media. Its not just for safety. Its been in the news were they interviewed Parents about their kids use of cell phones. They could see the changes in the child’s behavior. They constantly have their faces on their phones. Its turning their brains to mush. They found they were not doing well in school. I also agree they should not be in the classrooms.

Here is the simplest solution. Get your child a Flip Phone. No internet access.
One Mother on that news story did just that for her daughter.

All other cell phones need a Parental Lockdown.

I was looking at my Moto Android 15 phone & there is an app called Digital Wellbeing & Parental Control.

When you tap Set Up Parental Controls there is a message… You’ll choose age-appropriate content ratings, privacy settings & screen time rules for this device and your child or teen’s Google Account.

On my Moto G55 there is another app called Family Space from Motorolla, Its also were parents can set things up. You can read about it here…

Just click on About This App.

That mouse segment is a non issue for me.
When I’m working on my computer I am not carrying on a conversation with anyone.

If your using a cordless mouse you can turn it off or unplug your usb mouse.

As far as passwords go there is a low tech solution. Use a Notepad to write down all your Passwords & put it in a lock box. I am one of the few people who did not jump on the Password Manager bandwagon when Steve & Leo recommended Last Pass. You all know what happened with that one.

I have however recently taken a look at Proton Pass free manager. One thing I like is the ability to create an email Alias. I can then just give this out & I get the emails on my actual Proton email address. I have the Firefox Extension & the Desktop App.

Steve’s new DNS Benchmark app will be a great Improvement over the old one & $10.00 is nothing, especially when you are supporting All of Steve’s great work.

For myself I have always used Quad 9 in Firefox & when I am using Proton VPN I let everything go through their encrypted tunnel. I turn off Dns over Https.

This is the one I use.
