SN 1023: Preventing Windows Sandbox Abuse

Beep boop - this is a robot. A new show has been posted to TWiT…

What are your thoughts about today’s show? We’d love to hear from you!

Typical, I just signed up to 2 years of Backblaze on my new MacBook Pro - I used Carbonite in the past, but it was unreliable for a long time on my daughter’s Mac, so I switched her to Backblaze years ago - now there is a scandal.

As far as I understand it, it has nothing to do with the service, but more to do with some a-hole trying to make money by bad mouthing them and getting their stock price to fall, so he can make a fortune on shorting them.

Hopefully they can survive the attack and there isn’t anything to the story, I wait to see if this is just a stock-price-smear-campaign, or whether there is anything real to the story.

There has been several recent discussions of Chinese hackers during Security Now. I would like to recommend that Steve and Leo check out the “To Catch a Thief” podcast by Nicole Perlroth. I’ve been in security a long time, but the guests she has been able to interview help flesh out the stories.

That Windows update segment in the beginning was absolutely stunning. Honestly, it’s another bullet in the chamber when someone asks “what do you have against Windows anyways?” Steve speculated at one point that Microsoft has lost control of the beast, and I think that’s more true every month. Wonder how much worse it’s gonna get before things change.
