I have been giving the task to retrieve photos from an older apple airport extreme. I tried firing it up using the airport extreme utility app on my phone, but it could not see it. What are my choices ?

Do you know how it was configured the last time it was used?
Haven’t set one of those up for years, but from memory, you connect via Ethernet to your router, let it DHCP, and see if you can then see it from the AirPort app. Guessing you’ll need passwords to mount and access the drive?
update: So I plugged into my modem, then open up the modem’s gui and got its ip address. Then got the homes’ macbook pro and used the Airport Utility app to find it, add it and configure it. Now it says I can “archive disk” which allows me to plug in an external USB into it, and in theory, should copy all the data ? I hope after spending another 87 dollars for an external drive, this works. Fingers crossed.
