Recommendations for 8 TB SSD USB-C drive for my Mac mini

After doing a lot of research, I’ve decided buying a NAS for my home network is overkill. Instead, I’m just going to buy an 8 TB external SSD USB-C external drive (that will be 2 times the size of data I have) to connect to my Mac mini to synchronize my OneDrive and Google accounts.

Looking for brand recommendations. I live in Canada, but I’m assuming that will only affect the price.

It depends on what you want. A USB-C drive from Lacie would be good, around $500-$600.

If you need performance, something like the OWC Thunderbolt 4 array would be excellent, but around $1,800…

I’ll check out Lacie thanks. Performance isn’t important for me. The main purpose is to have an up to date copy of my school files in case I start working for a new school district.

Are your Lacie drives estimate CAD or USD?

Also, here’s where my AI tool suggested I look. Any other suggestions? I prefer shopping Canadian.

To get the most up-to-date pricing, I recommend checking these online retailers:

  • Amazon.ca: They often have competitive prices and a wide selection.
  • Bestbuy.ca: This is a very common place to purchase electronics in canada.
  • Newegg.ca: Another very common online retailer for computer parts.
  • Insight.ca: This site also has a variety of professional grade drives.
When comparing prices, pay close attention to the drive’s specifications, warranty, and customer reviews.

The price was a quick conversion from Euros to USD in my head, so an approximate price, based on the price on Amazon Germany.

Sorry, I am so used to LaCie devices, I meant SanDisk:

Thank you. I chose one.
You’re out of Germany?

Yes. I am British, but I have lived in Germany for over 2 decades.

I was born near Liverpool but have lived in Canada since 68. This is truly a world wide form. Thanks again for your help.

In late 2023 I bought an 8TB Seagate Barracuda Internal Hard Drive (3.5 inch Sata) and a Hard Drive Enclosure (RSHTECH) for my M2 Mac mini. Total cost under $US160. I partitioned it between a Time Machine and media storage (videos etc.). It has performed very nicely.
BTW I’m another Brit and have lived in the USA since 1985.

That’s a good idea too, thanks.
Guess I can’t really call myself a Brit since I’ve lived in Canada since I was 2 and a half lol.
