I like to buy my iPhones outright and unlocked. Not tied to a contract where I’m paying off the phone monthly. Now that the iPhone 17 has been, released, has the 16 price dropped? If the price of the 16 has not dropped now, do you think that there might be Christmas deals? I’m on a 14 Pro Max now.
Yes, by £100 here in the UK, so I assume $100 in the US?
Thanks. I’m in Canada, but close enough. I think I’ll wait until Xmas time to see if there’s any further drops.
Apple themselves don’t do any large sales on older devices beyond the $100CAD drop we get when the next phone is announced.
Maybe Best Buy or on the used market you might find some really good deals.
Ok, thanks. I’m a bit weary of Best etc. I think I’ll monitor the Apple Store for returned/refurbished phones for a few weeks. .But I might just have to bite the billet and pay full price.
Just comparing a bit. Is the big difference between the iPhone 16 plus and the iPhone 17 pro and pro max:
- camera
- Battery life
- A 18 vs A 19 processors
A18 vs. A19 Pro CPU, the Pro processors are even faster and have extra features, such as the ability to do ProRes RAW video encoding.
You also get a ProRes 120Mhz screen, which will be smooth, but also drop to 1Hz for static images, saving battery life over the 16 Plus.
The base 17 also gets that style of screen this year, making the upgrade to a Pro something only real camera pros of AI enthusiasts will really need to go for.
But the screen difference between the 16 Plus and the 17 series is probably the biggest differentiator, if you aren’t into professional level video, with the requirement for ProResRAW
Thank you. To summarize what you posted-if I’m a video creator enthusiast, the 17 is definitely a good upgrade. Otherwise, for regular, daily use, a 16 version is still a good choice? And a bit cheaper?
Yes, the only thing to really go for a 17 model over a 16 and 16 Plus is the 120 Hz screen. If you don’t want/need that, you can save a bit of money.
