I found the whole event fairly lackluster TBH. Now I have never owned or even played a MS console, so I am not the target audience, but it felt to me a lot like “welp I guess we have to try to do something, maybe this will be enough.”
I think I prefer proper console generations, the new stuff needs a new console, and the old console gets disused as it gets replaced. What MS is doing with a gradual “buy the new if you want to, but the old will run it too” seems to me it will lead to games that are always the lowest common denominator, so that the biggest audience can participate. Every time Sony kills off the old generation, there are still some games that come out on the old console, then get a re-release on the new console with minimal makeover, but after about a year that stops. It seems like MS is setting it up to be perpetual.
