New iOS app TWiTfinity looking for beta testers

Hi all, I was sad to see the demise of the previous TWiT apps, which I used to use primarily to watch the live stream (particularly for Security Now, my fav TWiT network show).

So I’ve started writing my own, and looking for beta testers. You will need to provide me your email address by private message, and the beta version(s) will install using TestFlight.

Currently it only plays the live stream, switchable between video and audio, but supports background audio, picture-in-picture, AirPlay, and remote control.

Based on your feedback, I plan to add an IRC client for the chatroom, schedule display, and/or browsing/playback of pre-recorded show episodes.

Regards,
Simon

Ah, I realised I can share a link so you don’t need to give away your email address. Try this: TestFlight - Apple

The next feature I’m working on is displaying the schedule below the video.

Feedback welcome.

While this app wouldn’t work for me, I just want to give you kudos for taking the initiative and writing one. Thanks for your hard work.

Do you mean you tried it and it didn’t work?

Or do you mean it’s not suitable for your use-case? Or you have an Android? :joy::joy:

Thanks for the kudos, much appreciated.

Sorry, not suitable for my use case. I’m mainly an Android user and generally watch the live stream on YouTube via my Roku.

I will give it a try. I too was kinda bummed when the other apps ended support.

Downloading it now.

A new beta is out, now displaying the schedule of upcoming shows in YOUR timezone.

Thanks for all the testers so far… and I assume no feedback is good feedback. But would love to hear any requests.

Haha I literally just submitted feedback through Test Flight before I saw this. So far so good. Streamed for a couple hours last night and it just worked. No crashes or bugs.

I downloaded it last night while having dinner at LAX before a red eye. Hoping to give it a better test this week now that I’m home.

So I’ve submitted release 1.0 to Apple for public release. Initially rejected while I provide evidence that I have permission to publish TWiT IP. Fair enough I guess. Hopefully will be out for all in a few days.

Next version in development has a notification feature so you can request reminders when you’re favourite shows are live.

If you need us to give you a letter saying you’ve got permission, let us know. I know we’ve done that before when developers have had trouble submitting to Apple.

I work for TWiT and even I get Apple rejections! Most recently, they didn’t like it when I tried to submit an iOS Today app for Apple TV. Turns out you can’t have an app with “iOS” in the name…which kind of left me baffled as to what to call the app since it was an app for that show. They also rejected my TWiT stickers because I had a sticker for “All About Android”.

Looks like that’s done! Nice.

I’d prefer browsing and playback of shows on-demand as that’s how I watch. What’s implemented now. Seems to be working great! Watching PiP right now.

Thanks. Hopefully what I have from Leo is enough, but I’ll let you know if I need something more formal/comprehensive.

Haha, the screenshots I took initially were coincidetally from All About Android which I decided may not be well received. No matter how many apps you submit, there’s always something else to catch you out. And that BIG RED REJECTED icon is so harsh!

Thanks for the feedback, Ben.

What could a TWiT-specific app do for you better than whatever you use now?

It’s finally live (AppStore link) and free for now.

A new beta will be out very soon with support for notifications of scheduled show times. Now we just need Leo to be on time! :joy: :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Speaking of Leo, it looks like I need to add a feature to display the time in UTC! (It currently displays your local time as well as PST if you’re not in PST, which was one of the main things I wanted for myself.)

Thanks all for your best testing and feedback.

Enjoy!
