I think pay walling chapters is a bit of a bummer but I know the bills need to be paid.

We can’t do chapter markers in shows with ads - the time codes change unpredictably when ads are inserted - so it has to be for the ad-free shows only.

That makes sense. But even on YouTube does that happen? Maybe I don’t see it because I use Premium and I only see the ads y’all insert.
Too bad they hadn’t designed the system around baseline markers… which they could have called segments. BUT… the downside there would be that it would easily allow skipping ads, and no one who makes income that way want’s that option either.
Lots of podcasts put the chapter marker 15-30 before the ad ends, so you still hear "our thanks to [sponsor] before moving on. But yeah you still skip the majority of the ad.
This wouldn’t work well with dynamically inserted ads though
