I upgraded everything straight away.
macOS was only offering 15.7, I had to upgrade to that first, then 26. The rest updated straight away.
I really haven’t found any problems with Liquid Glass, in fact on my phone and Mac, I was looking hard to even find it, if you don’t know it is there, you look straight past it 90% of the time.
I had a few teething problems, the complications on my Watch turned up after a 2nd reboot and 10 minute wait. The WöW weather widget wasn’t loading on my phone, I had to remove it and re-add it to the home screen. But other than that, I haven’t had any problems, so far.
Liquid Glass made a lot of the icons on my iPad look like they’re smudged up due to being high-bloom. I’m not really a fan.
I also believe Apple tightened the security on Face ID because now when I am laying on my back in bed (at a weird angle admittedly) my iPad no longer authenticates me. It’s actually really annoying. Specially because I purposefully use the lesser secure versions of Face ID. I hope it’s just a bug and Apple fixes it because I’ve tried to retrain & encourage (with passcodes) Face ID to learn this new angle but it just doesn’t work.
There’s another bug that happens when you try to add icons to the Dock. Sometimes (75% of the time) your device will lockup in Jiggle Mode, media will continue to play but you cannot do anything to the device; it’s completely locked up for 2-6 minutes until it forcefully resprings itself. You cannot even hold power + volume up to force a reset!! It’s crazy ba. Unsure how thst bug went through the dev beta cycle when one of the new features of iPadOS is more icons in the dock than before
I think I’ve gotten used to the new windowing system. I don’t know if I prefer it. But I’ve already learned some good tricks I like. Rest in peace Slide Over
I submitted feedback to Apple[about Face ID], but I’m sure it’ll never get fixed because Apple never fixes bugs I seem to encounter. I have a growing list of them. I’ll need to get a job at Apple to get them fixed myself.
I miss Jason Snell!
every podcast under the sun talked about Joz letting that guy try to bend the iPhone as if it was crazy. The guy didn’t really try his hardest. It was kind of embarrassingly cringe seeing every podcast go head over heels for that moment. I think I cringed hardest with ATP or Upgrade. Either way this week made me think I watch too many tech shows because they all sound like broken records. They even quote each other. Felt very incestuous.
While I’m generally accepting of new UI, this has really missed the mark. Seems like they killed the rounded rect in favor of …Hot Dogs? (see safari tabs)
The supposed transparency bubbly buttons that are supposed to “get out of the way” so you can see more of your own content, make it more distracting (see iOS mini player).
And the double edged window in many macOS apps (messages, mail, by close buttons) is just a weird choice.
I haven’t used it much yet, but I upgraded my wife’s MacBook Air and shuddered a bit when I saw all the opaque UI elements. Very dated IMO, thought we’d moved away from that sort of GUI design.
I have to admit, I had to look 2 or 3 times, before I even noticed the changes, much more subtle than I was expecting, after all the hype.
I’ll have to borrow it for a day and take a closer look. It was immediately obvious, because it had put a bunch of widgets on the desktop that went transparent when they didn’t have focus.
A few moans about iOS 26 on her phone. Something about not knowing how to go back a screen in apps, haven’t looked at that yet!
