Haven’t watched the EP yet but I wanted to wish everyone a happy iPhone / Apple / John Ternus day! I’m excited (also as an aside, new Nintendo stuff today too!)
I’m not an Elon Musk lover or anything like that (it’s actually a bit annoying that I feel the need to preface my comment with that) but I disagree with Andy about the Cyber Truck (I know I’m in the minority) but gosh darn I love that thing. It looks so unique and reminds me of the Nintendo 64 where every time I see it I just fall in love all over again.
Listening to this episode post-Apple Event, I gotta say I think Leo gets it right – the exciting thing to me about the iPhone Duo is moving to new form factors; breaking out of the “a phone looks like this” mentality. As much as I love the idea of a bigger screen (esp. as I age and my eyes benefit from more screen real estate), I would be very interested if Apple’s next iPhone were just half the Duo – thin and passport size (yes, I’m in that minority that hung onto my 12 mini until battery life made me move to the 17 last year).
Current work/economic situation precludes me from jumping on the bandwagon anytime soon. But if my fortunes change between now and October I would gladly order one…
I really like the idea of the Duo, the form factor has a lot going for it, but it is the wrong product at the wrong price at the wrong time.
With the AI companies forcing component prices through the roof and the current economic climate outside of the AI bubble, it is a bad time to release a $2,000+ “consumable” device.
I really wish the Surface Duo had taken off. I still find myself eyeing it on eBay and elsewhere, and not just as a glorified ebook reader. I also like the idea of the Surface Neo as well.
My ideal two-screen device would be a dual-screen 8" ish tablet. Like an iPad Mini or Lenovo with two screens. Something about the size of a typical hardback book.
I bought the Surface Duo when it came out precisely because I loved the form factor and aspect ratio. The split screens and the lack of software support killed it for me and i returned it almost immediately.
