I’ve been stressing about this: Apple is going to raise prices on new products, but they’re likely not going to increase the value you get on a trade-in product. The money I would get for trading in my iPad Pro M4 (with only 8GB of RAM) will never go up directly with Apple. I like to do what Jason mentioned these days where I will trade in my product for the upgrade years later.
I’ve been stressing about the price of things recently because I just got my learner’s permit again after over a decade not driving, and I’m pretty close to being allowed to get my full license (5 more hours with an instructor, then I have the in-car driving exam) and I’m looking at the prices of cars: holy shit things are expensive.
(Preface: I am not saying I think these things are bad, I get it. It’s just not appealing for me personally) I feel like browser sync is a bit overrated. I don’t want my history / open tabs or anything like that to sync. the only reason I have Chrome on my iOS devices is because the Google Password Manager. Even though I don’t really use Chrome anymore on my desktop, I use Firefox. I still use Chrome for important stuff or account creation. I never use the feature between iOS devices to see what tabs I had open on my phone from my iPad. I like all my browsers being their own thing.
Actually, I guess I do “use” synced safari bookmarks on iOS / Mac and I like that… but I don’t really need it. I have like 4 of them and one of them is the twit forums. I don’t even really use bookmarks much in my PC. I use bookmarks a lot at work. But work is its own thing in Corporate Land.
It would be nice if Intel were producing RAM domestically in North America.
I used to use my iPhone action button to run a shortcut that marked thst I took my medication (which I used to need 3 times a day every 4 hours) but ever since 2024, I’ve no longer been on that medication where I needed that on my action button. Then I started using it to open Music (because I hate when you tap the now playing widget, it brings you to the Now Playing UI in Music, instead of just opening the app where you left off. Now I use the action button to toggle Vehicle Motion Cues because ever since turning 30, now I get car sick in the back of an Uber while looking at my phone. I don’t feel like I make the greatest use of the button
Back in the day, that USB bottom exploit would be very exciting for jailbreaking devices. But jailbreaks haven’t been relevant (to me) in a very long time. Although I do have some Cydia purchases from way back in high school

here’s an interesting one! I have an iPhone 17 ProMax - my wife has an iPhone 16+. I wanted to get my wife a new phone before Apple started raising prices because of memory insanity. So I went on the Apple Store online and looked at the 17. Along the way I saw the iPhone 17e which I had read was amazing for the money! At any rate I read the tech specs and decided my wife would like it and it would do everything she needs in a phone! (she also has a 13" M2 iPad which she uses all the time at home.) At any rate, long story short - I ordered her the 17e, traded in her 16+ to Apple and got the brand new $600 17e for $134 - I’m happy 
Looks like price increases kicked in today
iPhone, AirPods, & Watch are all exempt. But now the price of the iPad Pro 13" starts at 2K CAD. Hopefully in 3-4 years when hopefully I get a new iPad it’s gotten more chill. If I can get 4+ years out of an iPad Pro, I don’t really mind the extra cost because I write it off as $500 a year for a device I love oh so very much.
Yes, the prices are crazy, but I am surprised about how long Apple’s supply chain deals are that they managed to push the price rises out this far.
The one product that shouldn’t, theoretically, have been affected was the Neo, as it was made with binned parts, but they said it was more popular than expected and they had to make a new batch of chips to cope with the demand, so its popularity will pretty much kill it dead, after a couple of months on the market.
It will be interesting to see what happens to the iPhone pricing, when the new models are announced. I have a 16 Pro with a broken back and was considering going to an 18 Pro, but I might gi with the 17 Pro, instead, or just keep the 16 Pro. iOS 27 doesn’t bring anything that requires the 17 or 18, apart from enhanced Siri, which we aren’t getting anyway.
The problem is, according to my suppliers in the industry, is that the situation isn’t supposed to get better until 2029 at the earliest. My MacBook M4 Pro has more than enough legs for that wait, but I’m not sure my iPad or iPhone do. The Air M2 I have is OK, but it might be worth getting an M4 or and Pro M5 on Amazon, before the price rises kick in there.
