New MacBreak Weekly just dropped, and we’re diving deep into Apple’s legacy with some fascinating conversations.
What we cover:
We welcomed Christina Warren to the panel this week—a Mac blogging veteran who’s spent time at Google, DeepMind, and now GitHub. Her perspective on Apple’s evolution through the AI era is invaluable. We also reflected on what Steve Jobs’ 71st birthday means when considering the trajectory he set for Apple. The panel explored how his years at NeXT and Pixar shaped his leadership philosophy and what that taught him before his triumphant return to Apple. We’re also looking ahead to David Pogue’s massive 50-year Apple history book dropping March 10th, featuring deep interviews and archival research you won’t find anywhere else. With April 1st marking Apple’s 50th incorporation anniversary, this is the perfect moment to examine how Jobs’ vision continues to define not just Apple, but the entire tech industry.
This episode captures something special about Apple’s past and what it means for where we’re heading.
Someone was typing through multiple parts of the show, it was kind of distracting. I think it was Christina. It sounded like an Apple keyboard. They should mute their mic when they’re not talking, or just when they’re typing. It was VERY annoying.
I like the colour of my orange iPhone Pro but I really hate that it’s made from aluminum. I miss the reliability of the steel / titanium phones. This comment is a spill off from this week’s upgrade.
I am thinking I might get the folding phone this year. I”m pretty nervous about the aluminum and I’m eager to get back onto a different material.
I just watched Toy Story 4 this weekend and I enjoyed it! I have to rewatch Toy Story 3 but I saw it as a kid (well, a teenager) and I remember not really liking that movie. But I didn’t like being sad when I was younger, I’m more open to crying in a movie now.
I used to have this joke, but it’s kind of going to become true: teach prisoners to make iPhones. they’re the closest population to workers overseas in terms of conditions & money you have to pay them.
I get the same thing on Apple Podcasts iOS, this week’s episode is for Subscribers Only. The “Bonus Podcast” is very persistent, including downloading.
Does the “bonus” podcast always download? That’s not right. It should just be a link. It’s an advertisement - they pay us for the displayed “signage” but Lisa has assured me it should never download.
Also it should never show up for subscribers. We never want to show ads of any kinds to Club Members.
It seems to automatically download on both MacBreak and TWiT feeds in my Apple Podcasts app. Amusingly, yesterday’s MacBreak only downloaded the bonus one but the main one failed. LOL
Note: I am a subscriber but not a member, if that helps in your troubleshooting.
Christina Warren lived up to every expectation. Congratulations and welcome to the show!
Still working my way through the episode, but I was wondering if the March event could be where we see the new Apple TV? All the pundits have said it should be coming out “soon”, to the point where it was even on a list of things not to buy “right now” because the new one was coming.
I have one and, tongue-depressor-shaped-remote aside, I really like it.
We’ll always miss the ones we lose along the way. Hell, I still miss Merlin Mann and Scott Bourne! We’ve been very fortunate in finding superb replacements, though!
There’s very much a family feel about TWiT podcasts. Different families, same feel. Even if families occasionally bicker over the dinner table. It’s all good.
Once in a while I will listen to a Merlin podcast that he is doing now, and it would be very interesting to see how he would handle staying in one genre right now!
On the subject of Tahoe, I accidentally upgraded to it from one of the system update notifications that came up and things seem pretty reasonable. Until I opened the updated Music app and man, what on earth were they thinking moving the playback actions to the bottom of the window? You can barely see them down there blending in with the playlist. Switching to the mini player helps, but I hope they reconsider this move, it’s awful.
After I updated, I was assuming Liquid Glass was turned off by default, because nothing really looked that different, until I actually went looking. To me, it was so subtle, I nearly missed it.
My brain is strange: it thinks Liquid Glass icons are “dirty”, because they have smears of colour on the light areas. Nothing I can do will persuade it otherwise.
