Logged in with SQRL

Found the native WP login however when I scan, the iOS client crashes.

However, on my SQRL WP test site, login works fine.

Here’s how the process went for me, as someone who previously had never been to or registered an account at twit.community

  • I visited sqrloauth.com and “logged in” using Steve’s desktop SQRL app (was already authed to the app) by clicking the logo (I’d never been to that site before either so it must have auto-generated an account), then only set FirstName on the EditUserInfo page.

  • I purposely went to a non-existent userpage here to see what would happen, so https://www.twit.community/u/strengths/preferences/account since I hadn’t registered yet. Yeah I’m like that :stuck_out_tongue: It probably should’ve given me a response saying it was an invalid address but instead it asked me to log in and offered SQRL oauth as the method, which I clicked on.

  • I think the SQRL client then asked permission to allow the action which I gave, then twit.community site let me “create” an account asking for an email address to send a verification email to, which I gave then clicked the link in that email.

Done! I now have an account here having never typed a password in at any step (the SQRL app asked for a partial password at some point to verify it was still me at the keyboard, I forget when).

This also means I have no password to reset so no real need for an email address to use for that or even for the verification email come to think of it, but I understand discourse probably isn’t designed to work without that step, redundant as it was for me.

Nice walk through @strengths that’s exactly how it is meant to work.
And yes the first time you login to sqrloauth.com it creates an account for you (a random one, to allow you remain anonymous if you chose to)
Then you can use that account to Auth anywhere without having to provide a password (or an email… unless that site requires it… like discourse does)

I know this is not the subject of this thread. I just watched your video showing the IOS version of SQRL. How did you get it to use FaceID? I don’t have FaceID, but I do have TouchID, would you happen to know how to have the app use that instead of tapping my password in each time? Thank you for any guidance you can offer.

You should head over to https://sqrl.grc.com/ and sign up so you can have a direct discussion with the author of the iOS SQRL app, in this forum: Jeff Arthur's iOS App | SQRL Forums

So Sorry for the snafu, I didnt think anyone was using it and I just ignored it (hadn’t looked at it in a few years). I’ve got it up and running again, and I’ll keep a better eye out.
