Does anyone know who Leo and Jeff were referring to in Intelligent Machines episode 877 (around 0:46:42) when they joked about ‘certain linguists’ they don’t love? It sounded like a long-running inside joke, does anyone have context on who they might mean?

It’s kind of an inside joke between us. We interviewed Emily Bender and Alex Hanna about their book, The AI Con, https://thecon.ai/, some months ago. While I respect them both, I disagree with their premise that AI is nothing more than a stochastic parrot. Jeff and I are pretty convinced it’s a lot more than that. (As was our linguist guest, Chris Potts!)
