I think the problem with AI crawlers at the moment is that the Internet, and the world in general, revolves around a capitalistic model. If the creators aren’t paid, they can’t create content, so if the AIs take the content without paying or viewing the ads - maybe the AI crawlers should be forced to watch ads and click through a certain percentage - that means, as AI becomes more popular, the creators won’t be able to afford to create and publish new content, which means the AIs will have less and less relevance for current information, historical research, scientific research etc. because they can no longer access up to date information.

Either AI companies have to accept that we live in a capitalistic society and they have to pay a fair share for the content they scrape or they have to wait until the capitalistic model is replaced by something more suitable to sustaining humanity and AIs. Looking at the apocalyptic way that some capitalistic societies are devolving around the world, they might not have to wait too long…
