IM 820: Watch Your Wallet Jony

Beep boop - this is a robot. A new show has been posted to TWiT…

What are your thoughts about today’s show? We’d love to hear from you!

Great episode. Interview guest was smart and level headed.

As for Jeff’s Google Workspace problem. One thing I do for my personal domain is I use Fastmail for e-mail and use that e-mail address for my google account. Google lets you setup a personal account with no gmail. Works great. If Jeff wants all his data there, he can use Cloudflare for DNS (free) which has ability to forward e-mail. You can forward it to gmail. (not optimal).

I live a few blocks from Bleeker street, so looking forward to trying a sandwich @Leo

One of the big differences in Europe is that in public, it is not ok to photograph or film people. You need informed consent, whether you are a private person, a business or a government department (police etc.).

This is why it is very difficult to get survielance footage in Germany, for example. Even the news can’t show faces of victims or suspects, if they haven’t given their permission (or in the case of the dead, the estate has to give permission). You often get blurred out mugshots shown in the news, with the information that the police are searching for someone. In a few cases, the court will decide that it is in the public interest and the face can be shown in the clear - only for them to be caught and the next day only the blurred image can be used…

With things like Ring Doorbell, the camera can’t show the public roadway, the driveway of the property etc. and if you live in an apartment, it can’t show the common hallway in front of your door.

The problem is, he has to use his work account for work, which includes teaching people about the AI features in Google… Which aren’t available if you are a Google customer and not just a Google product.
