How many mbps up do I need to synch files and run Back Blaze smoothly?

Two ISP service my town.

Company A Cable

350 down and 20 up

64.95 per month

Company B Fibre

300 down and 150 up

75.00 per month

As I figure it, the largest packets that I have going ‘up’ are when I sink personal files with Google and work files with OneDrive. And my Back Blaze backup running continuously.

Can I get away with 20 up?

Like you said, it’s only when it’s uploading that it will be an issue.

I have a version of “Company A” and I notice that some uploads I have to wait to complete are a little longer, but it’s rare that I personally am uploading much, and the download speeds are more than sufficient that I never consider “Company B” seriously, despite their theoretically better fibre speeds.

My numbers, reported by https://speed.cloudflare.com/
Download: 261 Mbps
Upload: 14.1 Mbps
Latency: 12.9ms
Jitter: 4.96ms
Packet Loss: 0.5%

I’ve used Carbonite and Backblaze for about a decade. I used to have a 2mbps up and later 20mbps.

They share the bandwidth and throttles themselves, when other things are using the connection. The upload speed is only a limit for the first backup, on my first PC, it took a couple of weeks to complete, with the PC running 24/7, after that the synching of changes didn’t really take much time, the big changes were when I took a lot of photos out videos.

I currently have a 500/200 connection, but that was only a benefit when I upgraded my Mac mini to a MacBook Pro. In daily use, as long as you have a couple of mbps, you won’t notice it running in the background.
