HOT 206: Automating Roller Shades & Connecting Printers

Beep boop - this is a robot. A new show has been posted to TWiT…

What are your thoughts about today’s show? We’d love to hear from you!

Although I’m in Club TWiT, I generally listen to show feeds with ads, to help keep the number of ad impressions up. So I get to hear the auto-insert ads when they are needed.

I’m in the UK, and know that auto-insert ads are usually tailored for the download location. Often they’re very UK-specific, using presenters with regional UK accents. However, for this HoT episode I heard two adverts that sounded as if they were in an Eastern European language, certainly nothing that sounded like a Western European language. As they were at different points in the show (one at the end I think) they could have been for the same product - think I heard the word “telecom”, but can’t be certain.

None of this is a complaint, just mentioning it in case there’s any fine tuning that would improve ad targeting.

Unfortunately, my podcast player deletes every download straight after it’s played, so I can’t recreate exactly what I heard - when I re-downloaded the show I got one ad insertion in the middle for Indeed, and no insertion at the end. Which might mean that the insertion I thought was at the end of HoT was actually at the beginning of another, possibly non-TWiT, podcast. And I have no way of knowing for certain what was the case. So unless there have been other comments about ad inserts in odd languages, I think my comment probably goes under the heading of “interesting, but unhelpful”. Sorry.
