Exchange Issue for 2022

Not sure if there are many Exchange admins out there, but if there are by now you’ve probably noticed there is an issue with mail flowing. Seems to be a bug that is due to the way MS stores the date, can’t handle 2022…

Work around is to disable the anti-malware scanner.

“2201010001” is too big to fit into a long.

I sure hope the M Sex Change Team is paying attention

I guess dates are signed now too! LOL

Yep, Exchange Server has a Y2K+22 problem. A little depressing that right now the only way to keep mail flowing is to disable spam/malware scanning, at least until a patch happens. Hope Steve Gibson will go into it in depth, meantime there’s a good article here:

I do not miss being responsible for Exchange deployments.

Oh, great, that will be something to look forward to, when we go into the office on Monday!

Although we use a third party scanner…

And apparently MS has a fix. Though you need to go find it. From reading, it’s basically stop service, empty a couple of folders, and restart the service.

I wonder what they did. I would think changing a variable type would require an actual software patch.

Steve Gibson talked (will talk as I type this) about this issue as the main topic on the Security Now episode today (#852). A quote from the show notes:
