DXD player with Cable provider Comcast

Have changed the cable plugs numerous times. Tried to reset the system. Currently have sent the problem to Comcast Cares on Twitter. Will see what they say.

Just looked at my cable box. The new cable box has 2 connections to the TV. The coaxial cable (box to TV) and an HDMI cable (box to TV) Can that be why comcast takes 2 inputs on the TV?

If you have HDMI connected to the TV you shouldn’t need the coax.
I would unplug the coax. Then check the TV to make sure you still get the Comcast. Then, move the Comcast to the other HDMI port and see if you still get signal. If you don’t, its possible that the other HDMI port went bad (not common, but does happen).

Included are images of the set up

Okay the white coax wire on the Comcast port “cable out” and on the TV port “ant in” should be removed. Your TV says (DVD) on HDMI1. I have no idea why it has this preference, but that seems like where you would want the DVD player. That would leave HDMI2 for the Comcast box.

Removed the white coaxial. After My last communication with comcast. the inputs are a mess. Now I think I need to first reset the TV. As we use the comcast remote, will try to find the TV remote. If not will try to reset TV manually.:mask::face_with_monocle:

HDMI 1 is actually labeled DVI for connection from a computer, not that it should make any difference, unless that port does not have HDCP which would be a reason why the DVD player does not work in that port. Rather unlikely though.

Oh, you’re right. The picture was just blurry enough I thought I saw DVD.

I would seem that the DVI labeled port just means that it can take audio from an analogue source (as DVI from computer does not carry audio)

Thanks for this very helpful information. Am studying closely.

A final thought. After talking to Comcast the inputs changed. I view the inputs on my TV screen. Before talking to Comcast the inputs on the TV clearly showed 4 inputs. After I spoke to Comcast I could only see 3 inputs. The screen also showed some other grayed out
item or items. Currently believe Comcast can make changes thru firmware that I have no idea how to change back. Think that is what it would be called. Comcast has done something with their box that controls what I see on my TV. Finally received an email from Comcast saying I need to “buy” a new cable modem from Comcast to improve my internet speeds. I blocked their emails to my email address. Turned the TV over to my husband and refuse to deal with Comcast.

Most modem TV’s can see an active connection over HDMI, so when you plug a device into the HDMI port on the TV and turn on the device the TV can see a connection and input on the HDMI port that will, in turn, make it show up as a selectable input.
My guess is that when reconfiguring the connections for the set-top box something was unhooked causing that input to grey out. Nothing should be able to change your TV configuration through firmware updates or anything else from the set-top box.

If you use comcast remote and new comcast cable box you can only watch comcast on that tv. My DVD player and now my Roku are both not visible on my TV. OPINION: Think comcast no right to disable other systems on my TV. Search the internet. I am not the only person who. More and more people have this same issue!

That still doesn’t make sense. Are you able to watch the DVD and Roku when you disconnect the Comcast box’s HDMI?

I’m wondering if the Comcast box is a bit aggressive with HDMI-CEC and taking over as the active connection HDMI connection There is no way that a cable box can affect which TV inputs you can select.

Not sure how it is done. When using the TV with a new comcast (xfinity) cable box, other connections are disabled. This afternoon I tried watching Roku. Switched the cables and was able to see Roku. However when I tried to switch the cables back the system would show the TV system but the image kept flickering. Actually called comcast. They reset my system remotely. It still did not work. Talked to them again. Changed to HDMI1 from HDMI2. It worked then. Somehow they control the inputs I can use remotely. Think you control the TV thru the box. Comcast controls the box and disables any other inputs. Used to at least use Roku and now can not. Either we buy a second TV or use a computer. Comcast said tonight they made some changes to our local system. I have turned the comcast account over to my husband. I will not deal with them anymore.
This looks like the new internet changes are now fully in place. Comcast does not just control the price of internet. If you use comcast you must accept whatever they want to do and charge whatever they want. After my last encounter with comcast they emailed me and said I needed to “BUY” a new modem from comcast to increase my internet speeds. (I purchased my own modem about 2 years ago.

Sounds like dodgy cables or dodgy HDMI ports. Replace the cables with new ones. If you know that there is a HDMI port that works, get a HDMI switch and plug everything through that and switch between them.

Given that there was a power surge, I still think that the ports on the TV were damaged.

Think what you like. My TV is controlled by the comcast cable box. on Christmas eve comcast reset my system remotely. That changed the inputs visable on my TV screen. In order to change back to see discs or Roku believe I need to disconnect the cable box and then reset the TV. In other words completely stop using comcast.

Comcast answered. If you want to use a bluray player use the TV remote and not the comcast remote.

If you want to simplify your life, you might consider a Logitech Harmony Companion system. You can program the buttons to select certain configurations (“Watch Comcast”, “Watch DVD”, etc) Incidentally, you could also connect it to Google Home and be able to say “Ok Google Tune The TV to channel 123.”
