It is election time in Germany. The CDU has brought out an app to allow its canvesers to record which houses they have visited and what they discussed.
A white hat hacker, and member of the CCC, found a couple of security flaws in the app, which exposed the data on the server. She reported it responsibly to the app maker, the next thing she knew, she was being investigated for hacking into the app!
That caused a big backslash on social media and the CCC announced that they won’t be responsibly reporting any future security holes in CDU apps and platforms, and wishes the CDU good luck with the next security hole!
The CDU has since backtracked, but I’m guessing they lost any goodwill they had with voters working in IT.
