AI recommendation for daughter and I - beginners

My daughter turned 13, and I’m unlocking some of the restrictions I have had on her devices and accounts…some. I am a 50 year old software engineer, but have been very rusty because I have been more PM than Tech. I want to get her into vibe-coding. I don’t have a clue how to get started with this because I’ve been old-school for years. I have been listening to I.M. and TWIT shows for 15 years now.

I’m looking for a guide or examples of how to setup a system for this. I plan on wiping both of our laptops and get both setup the same. [Well mine with more control]. We have 13th gen Core i7s / 32 GB RAM / Nvidia 3070ti GPU.

I have been considering this same question (minus the daughter thou  ) and the recommendation I got was to go with Claude Code and the pro subscription ($20US/mo).

From the AI User Group on the Club TWiT Discord, here’s a recommendation I received:

I think it’s fantastic that you want to code with your daughter. As a woman in tech, this makes my heart so happy. I do worry a little about the goal being “to learn vibe coding,” though, and not to work towards something more definitive like creating apps, working with data, etc. LLMs are great tools but their output is only as good as the person reviewing it and it is very risky to introduce at this age. I have 3 kids and can speak confidently to this.

And at that age, there should really be a foundational understanding of security and information best practices before building things that might cross into your network or data, or into her young developing mind.

I’m sorry that I can’t give a recommendation for a model at this age, but I’d suggest something that follows the strictest privacy rules and safeguards.
