Aaargh, What are .pvt files?

AirDrop’ed several (34) photos from my iPhone SE on iOS 17 to my M1 Mac on MacOS 14 and they all came as .pvt files. Photos on Mac does not recognize them as photos when I try to import. If I double click on each individual file, it shows up in Photos.

This literally is a totally new behavior as far as I am concerned. Air Drop photos regularly.

Cannot find any useful information online about these file types.

Quick search on Bing tells me these are “Live Photos” that have had their extensions mangled by Apple’s Air Drop software (it just works!:tm:). If you fix the extension by changing it to the correct .heic then you can view them with any HEIC image viewing software.
