WW 966: You Can't Spell Gmail Without AI

Beep boop - this is a robot. A new show has been posted to TWiT…

What are your thoughts about today’s show? We’d love to hear from you!

When Paul said “AI is real” I heard it as “AI Israel” and my ears perked up.

On mobile phones I like OLED, and I imagine it’s great on a TV; but I have no desire for an OLED on my computer. I worry about burn-in ever since experiencing it on my iPhone 15 Pro. The OLED screen on my iPad Pro didn’t wow me at all. I feel like it’s the same as the previous screen for what I do on my iPad. The only issue is: now I worry about screen burn in because my iPad displays static content sometimes; specially with multiple window support. My next computer monitor will be IPS. I would never get a TN panel though

To Paul’s point on AI deniers or haters, I don’t hate AI, I just hate the tech bros that run these companies. He also mentioned the same reactions to the Internet, when it came along.

I have exactly the same feelings about AI that I did about the Internet. It started off as a great thing, it was free and open and everybody could use it, then it got messed up by big business. The Big Tech and Advertising Tech and Tracking Tech that came along in the background brought us some great advancements, but they also destroyed much that was good about the Internet, but the most egregious thing all these companies did was say, “we are innovators, we don’t have to follow no stinking laws!” And they got away with it, until they were too big and then they said, “we are too big to follow the law, it would be too expensive to implement the checks!”

And AI is going exactly the same way. The technology is great, but the attitudes of most of the people behind it are appalling.

I didn’t realise that agave was used in Tequila/Mescal. We just use it as a healthy sugar replacement.
