$2K USD for an “emacs machine” is a crazy amount of money to spend on a machine.
I’m still running WIn11 22H2. I’ve been meaning to upgrade my PC and do a new install but with the prices of things going up, I’ve been dragging my feet. I want more RAM and a new GPU; both things are expensive

nVidia prices were at or below RRP 2 weeks ago and the consensus was to buy, because the prices are going to go up again.
I recently bought 6 1TB machines and 150 16GB machines, just before the prices rose, now we paid almost as much for 16GB RAM and a new battery for an older laptop as we paid for the new PCs! I’ll be holding onto my Mac at home for a while, I think. Although they might be less affected as they have the RAM on-circuit, as opposed to third party DIMMs, we will see…

I’m still rocking a GTX 1070 from 2016…. I was told to wait for the 5070 super card.
It looks like I can get a 5070 for under $800 before tax though. So maybe I’ll do that…. But I also run out of RAM often because WoW has a memory leak (or maybe I just really need to do a fresh install)

i’m a freak and i enjoy my banans while they’re slightly green…. if they get too yellow (don’t even talk to me about brown) they’re too soft and mushy. it’s weird. i like my bananas slightly firm (not mush)
i enjoyed the fruit talk. specially the dabbling in the blight of the bananas. but it’s been going on or over a decade at this point. i’m a bit sad i’ve never gotten to taste a gros michel banana. apparently the candy / popsicle artificial flavour we have today is based on the old bananas

So I just bought a new GPU today. I got a RTX 5070 for $730CAD locally. I’m about to do a fresh Win11 install this weekend

Update: my PC is so old I cannot use a PCI gen 5 card on my motherboard
I spent 3 hours tinkering with it and I cannot get it to work. The motherboard cannot negotiate with the GPU how many lanes it needs. And I’ve tried to set it manually.
Due to the cost of RAM right now…. I have decided I’ll probably return the GPU instead of buying new expensive parts. My money will go farther elsewhere.
EDIT: I’m gonna spend the money and upgrade my entire PC. It’s time to get modern

Berating transformed into being influenced hahaha. You & @big_D are quite the influencers in my purchase haha.
When I thought more about RAM prices not going anywhere for the next 8-24 months I came to the conclusion that now is probably the best time for me to upgrade.
I realized “well, I got 7-10 years out of these computer parts, it was a sound investment. Hopefully this one also lasts 7-10 years”.
I’ve been using 16GBs of RAM ever since the first computer I ever built for myself back in 2014; in the 10+ years since then, 16GBs has started to feel anaemic on Windows. Specially if I want to have a game open while having my browser & discord open. I don’t wanna juggle apps anymore on my desktop
