WW 832: Saturated by Fake Girlfriends

The reason it was used only by single people for single people activities was simple

Have wife/husband/SO - cant afford 2
Have kids - can’t afford 1
Have family - can’t afford 1
Have dog - can’t afford 1
Have friends - can’t cope with them laughing at you

You could use a telepresence robot for that, far cheaper

But they were useful and you only looked a little bit stupid!

How is a telepresence robot going to show you the future plant machinery, pipes, control panels etc. on an empty lot or in an empty building?

Just wanted to say about Microsoft spare parts shop and particularly Surface Pro 7. Liz’s old SP7 died a couple of weeks ago - SSD failure. Turns out the SSD is soldered directly to motherboard as is cpu and RAM, making the device virtually not worth even trying to fix!!!

Sorry misread what you posted, I am sure there are 1000s of uses it would work with for maybe a 1000 or so customers

I find the Vision Pro an exciting step in computer IO that has been lacking since the introduction to biometric ID on handheld devices. Incremental upgrades over the last ten years have not peaked my interest at all.

Unfortunately for us oldies, the younger generations define the future, not us. The acceptance of things like using an iPad as a camera in a crowd, immersion in messaging while sitting at a table with a group of friends, the acceptance of people walking around with airpods hanging off their ears all day, people carrying on private conversations on a video or audio call in public with the speaker enabled, all prove unusual or “unacceptable” use of technology becomes the norm.

I can foresee groups of 20 year olds at a table in a restaurant with headsets on,
fingers, heads, and hands all actively moving quietly, and then all bursting into laughter. I foresee the headlines about the accident where the driver of a car was watching a movie in AR mode while driving.

And yet I can foresee the headset providing a heads up display of speed, speed limit, driving hazards, navigation cues, and 360 degree views of driving conditions.

Some of us are very private people. Being able to exist in an AR/VR environment where we can use our apps desk and hands free, and still interact with the world around us is a big, much awaited step.

And the AR/VR technology up till now did not grab me in the way this spatial OS and headset did. Very reminiscent of the excitement I felt when iPad was first introduced.
