I agree that things would be so much better and easier if you could buy different devices from different companies and make them work together easily or through the same standard. I don’t think this will happen anytime soon for 3 reasons. 1. They want you to buy their products and stay in their eco system so they make their own communication standards. 2. They don’t want to be responsible for someone buying say a cheap Chinese sensor for say a Ring alarm system and the sensor not upholding the standards of ring and malfunctioning and possibly causing bad PR for Ring, just an example. Honestly I don’t blame them for the 2nd reason. 3. Lets not forget that really what most of these companies want in your home is the device that actually monitors speech or habits for data to sell and the only way to guarantee that is to make their stuff proprietary. Hopefully somehow somewhere the major companies in smart home devices learn to work together to make all of our lives easier.
