**Budget:** $2050 CAD

**Country:** Canada

**Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:** Gaming in general (I don’t plan to play any heavy games. My Steam library), video editing (Premiere) and, VMs in VMWare (Windows 8.1 and Server 2013)

**Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you’re upgrading from, when you’re going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):**

I set up a poll to more easily keep track of results from multiple sources you can vote @ [https://www.opinionstage.com/samgreenwood/which-gpu-should-i-use](https://www.opinionstage.com/samgreenwood/which-gpu-should-i-use)

Hey Sam, Just curious what Type of games do you play? I really matters when choosing a video card. Maybe name a few titles.

Basically almost any modern card will do for 1080p gaming. 4K gaming isn’t really possible on high settings with current cards. (_Maybe_ on the RTX 2080Ti or whatever… but your budget doesn’t allow for that… that card would cost as much as your whole computer budget.) There is a new batch of cards coming by Xmas, they may be better at 4K gaming, but again, it will still be expensive.

You would do best to pick a budget for your GPU, and then get the best of breed that fits within the budget.

FYI, that memory is not on the QVL for your mainboard - [https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X570-GAMING-X-rev-11/support#support-doc](https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X570-GAMING-X-rev-11/support#support-doc)

It’ll likely still work, but you may encounter system crashes if you try and actually clock the memory up to DDR4-3200. These Ryzen processors are sensitive to memory hardware, and performance suffers considerably unless you’re running the right memory speed. These PC build websites never check the QVLs, most of them are just in it for the affiliate link cash.

I’m sure you’ll still be able to boot though. Let us know once you’re up and running!

Ryzen coolers are notoriously hard to install. I would look for a YouTube video to help, because I think you need visual guidance in this case. Maybe watch the next 10mins of this: [https://youtu.be/lhhKVq0uYIo?t=400](https://youtu.be/lhhKVq0uYIo?t=400)

the bracket on the side that doesn’t have the lever side seems to be looser than the lever side but the release lever seems to be loose. I also had that problem with the CPU when trying to reinstall it after the cooler came off.

The lock/clips form a U. Find the setting of the lever where it lowers that side the most (the unlocked setting) then slide the side opposite the lever down onto the latch. Once the far side is latched, use the lever as leverage to lower the latch on the lever side down over the catch. Finally move the lever to the locked position.

I suspect you’re looking at some of the wrong holes. Many cases seem to have extra holes for the PSU… I don’t know if there are different layouts or what. Also, perhaps the PSU is upside down? The PSU fan should normally face out of the case…

The case is a Cougar and a the PSU is EVGA. Both the PSU and the case have screws in the same configuration but I think it’s being weighed down by the cables. Generally how many screws are needed to hold the PSU in?
