Not everyone that is positive for covid died from covid. You can have prostate cancer and die from a heart attack, and not be counted as having died of prostate cancer. That point is being made very clear from the doctors who say the counts here are being inflated.
The same WHO who said it wasn’t passed from person to person, who said there is no need to wear masks, and who complained when the US shut the borders to China? I don’t believe them either.
No I don’t believe any of the numbers including the US numbers. Every day I hear stories about how hospitals are able to bill more money for covid-19 deaths vs. regular deaths. Example: State of PA had to revise their numbers down because everything was being tagged as covid-19.
“Oh you have fatal cancer + covid-19, that’s a covid death…” “Oh you got run over by a steamroller and had covid? That’s also a covid death…”
Plus the testing is so far behind on things as well so we actually don’t know how accurate the “new cases” are… Example: University of MI Health has 115 pending tests as of yesterday… So all those could be “new” cases today vs cases that are actually 2 - 5 days old or more.
WHO guidance has been consistent throughout, which includes publicising papers such as the Chinese ‘Preliminary investigations…have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission…’ one in mid-Jan. That infamous tweet will be one for the learnings I’m sure.
But there were many briefings happening at the same time to all WHO members detailing this new respiratory disease and probable methods of transmission.
PHEIC was declared at the end of Jan.
Face masks are always caveated by WHO - they can give people a false sense of security and can cause issues with supplies to health and front line workers who need them. So only do if you have clear comms on not relaxing lockdown/social distancing and have supplies available (i.e. don’t just tell your people to wear them).
The advice from WHO on borders is generic. With a global pandemic, it isn’t thought to be very effective and can restrict medical supplies. other supply chains and key staff movements.
As long as that same guy is leading the WHO, I find anything they do to be suspect.
Quite timely - the UK has now started adding care homes (who’ve tested positive) and altered their daily reporting. According to this chart France, Italy, Germany and Sweden are doing the same.
Yea, that is what I am talking about.
Some doctors from CA had a video on Youtube with over 5 million views, and Youtube took it down. They were explaining some of these issues in an interview. Apparently, you can’t have that kinda free information out there. Facebook and Youtube are taking things down that don’t fit the narrative. Ridiculous.
Can you believe this is happening in America? This type of behavior…

Can you believe this is happening in America?
Sadly yes with the level of “discourse” that is no online where everyone who doesn’t agree w/ me is evil.
One of the things I really appreciate about this community is there is room for a discussion
[Pgljoy] as far as quality of schools go by district, there are more factors than funding amounts involved in student performance. US spends much more per student than other countries, even in poorer districts but gets less for money spent.
It was very disappointing to hear Amy Webb and Iain Thomson be so flippant about how China might take over Taiwan. While I don’t disagree the real possibility the west might just acquiesce and leave Taiwan to fend for itself against China, it’s wholly incorrect to compare Taiwan to Hong Kong and Singapore. I don’t think that a Chinese take over would be as conflict free as they appear to present it, and it’s disappointing that they are apparently just fine with it. There’s a lot of Taiwan that isn’t fine with the idea at all.
Welcome to the forum, Chiefmas, and I agree with ya there. It would be a real tragedy if that were to occur.
I took it as more exasperation than acceptance. It’s basically my state of mind the past few years. I’m sure there will be some sort of resistance but I don’t think the west would have the stomach to defend Taiwan now and I think this virus is an accelerant that China welcomes in their ascent.
Most controversial thing @IainT suggested is that people should adopt a cat.
Dogs > cats
Haha. Great show otherwise.

Correct, the Chinese leased Hong Kong to the UK Government and they re-took possession once the lease ran out.

I suspect the Taiwanese military would have something to say about that - They’re really a well trained and equipped force that will NOT be easy for China to take down
