The iPhone says it’s a great egret.

Yeah, I think a lot of different people call these types of birds different things, among them: stork, crane, heron, egret. I’m sure there are lots of technical differences, but not matter what you call them, they’re always very amazing to encounter. Around my parts, I mostly see the Great Blue Heron… and they make a pretty haunting call when they’re scared and fly off.

We have mainly Grey Herons, here in North Germany, plus a lot of Storks, but they are usually up towards the coast, although we did have a pair on the canal a couple of years back.

I didn’t really expect to see kangaroos this evening since I was just taking a stroll around the suburb.
