Wow that’s quite a list, wish I had time to give them all a shot.
Audio-only shows I listen to regularly aside from TWiT:
Super Marcato Bros - they’re not as active anymore but their back catalog is huge and evergreen. Two classically trained musician brothers critique video game music going back to the 8-bit era up through around the PS360 era. Give it a try even if you’re not into gaming but have any sort of appreciation for the study of music.
Lex Fridman Podcast - Lex can be a bit much sometimes, but he manages to grab interviews from some really interesting people from time to time and he’s got a hands-off style of interview with the better guests. His interview with Matthew Cox was one of my favorites, an infamous real estate fraudster from the early 2000s.
NPR Short Wave - Quick sub-15 minute shows that are perfect while doing chores. Each episode is an interview with a subject matter expert in some obscure scientific field in classic NPR style.
The Fighter Pilot Podcast - A retired naval aviator and friends interview (usually) combat pilots. Most episodes focus on a specific airframe, or an event in history. It’s not super macho like some other military-focused shows, Vincent (the host) is a pretty down-to-earth guy with an interesting personal story.
I don’t spend a whole lot of time with audio podcasts, so I’ll list some of my fav YouTube channels as well:
Adam Savage’s Tested - Mythbusters alumni Adam Savage runs this channel which showcases his DIY projects along with the occasional product review.
Dropping Names with Brent and Jonny - Genuine friends Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes of Star Trek fame hang out for an hour with a guest chatting about all things acting. If you think this is just another Trek show, you don’t know the depth and breadth of these guys’ careers and ought to give it a shot.
Matt’s Offroad Recovery - Matt and his family run an offroad recovery tow service in the heartland of American overlanding. Aside from the interesting vehicle recoveries in beautiful locales, the show also focuses on grassroots engineering behind the custom-built vehicles used for recovery operations.
The Vintage Space - Canadian author Amy Shira Teitel produces longform video essays with a focus on events and figures around the American space program from early NACA days right up through the end of the Apollo program.
So I watch (and try to participate) in the shows live. Accordingly, the only other “podcast” I watch is Paul Thurrott’s daily-ish show with Brad Sams on YT (
