I just bought a new Commodore 64 Ultimate - A real FPGA reproduction of the original 64 with a bunch of added capabilities (new I/O but also the ability to use original accessories!!) The new 64 Ultimate is not an emulator, it’s actually a modern version of the original Commodore 64 in an FPGA, but with some modern additions! That’s what makes it so cool to me!! ---

This is so cool! Great to see the people who bought the Commodore name actually doing something with it. Do you have it already or is it on pre-order? These FPGAs are wild. Emulation is good for some things, but you can’t beat purpose-built hardware for accuracy and performance. I’m flirting with the idea of picking up one of the Nintendo 64 FPGA boxes from [Analogue.](https://www.analogue.co/3d) My only gripe being that they don’t support the OpenFPGA framework. ---

Well I have been messing with this 64 Ultimate most of the day! It’s sweet! There is a real FPGA Commodore 64 in there but also soooo much more! Hmm, what are the disk speeds like? Are they original or modern? Do you still need Dolphin DOS or similar to get good performance? ---

ok, I dug out an old Commodore 1571 5 1/4 inch drive and connected it!! The Commodore 64 Ultimate has all of the original connectors to hook up the original C64 accessories as well as HDMI and modern connectors like USB and Ethernet RJ45 10/100. It also has the original port for Cartridges and 2 DB9 connectors for joysticks etc. It also has 128MB RAM - some can be configured as a RAM disk - also internally there are connectors to do lots of other things!!
